Rocky Hill Babe Ruth Baseball League Overview:
Rocky Hill Babe Ruth Baseball League plays other Rocky Hill Teams and Teams from surrounding towns within our District. The number of teams that participate in our District change slightly from year to year. Babe Ruth works closely with Rocky Hill Baseball and shares many of its resources (ie. Registration, Sponsorship Administration, Web Site, etc.). The number of teams formed will depend on the number of players registered. The league is intended for players with some experience playing Baseball that have the desire, enthusiasm and skills necessary to play on a full size diamond.
At the beginning of each season a volunteer is asked to be the Babe Ruth League Director. In their capacity they oversee all aspects of Rocky Hill Babe Ruth Baseball.
The number of teams will depend on the number of registered players and interest level and the number of Volunteers available to Manage or Coach our teams.

Work Out Clinics and Skills Assessment
In early April Rocky Hill Babe Ruth may hold a "work out" and "skills assessment" clinic. The intent of these clinics is to assess the skill level of players so we can form balanced teams and spread talent among teams. After these clinics players are rated and then drafted to teams. Rocky Hill Babe Ruth strives to place all players on a team and attempts to avoid cuts. However, the number of players assigned to a team will depend on the number of players registered, their skill level and the number of teams we are able to field.
Team Formation and Player Placement
Teams are formed based on the number or Registered players and number of Volunteers interested in Managing or Coaching teams. Babe Ruth has historically allowed the player of the Manager and One Coach to be assigned to a team. The balance of players are then drafted to each of the teams. Every year the team structure is evaluated to optimize games within the District. Some years we form 13 year old transition teams and 14-15 year old teams. Other years we form balanced teams of 13-15 year olds.
Practices
Practices typically begin in mid-April. The schedule typically contains 2 or 3 practices and/or games per week, however, this will depend on weather conditions, field availability, and availability of coaching staff.
Spring League (Grape Fruit League)
Late April and May Rocky Hill typically plays other Rocky Hill teams and other local teams during the early part of the season. The purpose of these games is to give the players game experience prior to the Babe Ruth Regular Season. This early season is often referred to as the Grape Fruit League and will typically include 8-12 games.
Regular Season
The District regular season begins late May and ends late June. The Rocky Hill teams compete against teams from surrounding towns. These towns change year to year, but have included Wethersfield, West Hartford, East Hartford, Berlin, Avon, Farmington, and South Windsor.
Prospective Middle and High School Players
The Middle and High School Season’s typically end during the second or third week of May. This is typically the same timeframe that the Babe Ruth Regular Season begins. Middle School players are allowed to play in other Leagues and there are typically only a few scheduling conflicts with Babe Ruth. High School Players are not allowed to play in other Leagues during their Season. If you are interested in playing on a Babe Ruth team when the High School Season ends please note this on the Registration form so we can distribute these players evenly among teams.
